Small, local businesses can get help attracting new employees through signing bonuses through a matching grant program through Virginia Career Works Capital Region.
The Hiring Incentive Program is part of the state’s Return to Earn initiative and will pay qualifying businesses up to $ 500 in matching funds for signing bonuses paid by employers to employees. newly hired.
Brian Davis, executive director of the Capital Region Workforce Partnership, noted that local employers have positions available, but are having difficulty filling them.
“Any tool in the box that we can make available that could help job seekers fill open positions can only help close the current hiring gap,” Davis said.
To be eligible, a business must have fewer than 100 employees at all of its locations in Virginia, and new employees must be unemployed at the time of hire. Eligible positions can be full-time or part-time and must pay a minimum of $ 15 per hour.
An eligible business will be reimbursed half of a bonus it pays to a newly hired employee, up to a maximum of $ 500. The program will help match bonuses for up to 25 new hires for an eligible business.
